MEDICATIONS IN PREGNANCY

Here at Cheyenne County Clinic, our wish is for you to have a  healthy and enjoyable pregnancy. If you feel you need medications for minor cold symptoms or aches and pains, the following is a list of what we believe to be safe medicines. If you wish to take medicine that is not on this list, please contact the physician first. If you have been taking  a medication that is not on the list. or is on the list of medicines to avoid, please contact your physician.

SAFE MEDICINES

PAIN:  acetaminophen (plain Tylenol)

STOMACH UPSET: Maalox, Mylanta, Tums, Rolaids 

NAUSEA: B6 (25-50mg daily), Emetrol, Ginger 

DIARRHEA: pectin, Kaopectate

COUGH:  Robitussin, Robitussin DM

CONSTIPATION: Colace, MetamuciL Citrucel, Milk of Magnesia, Fibercon 

STUFFY NOSE: pseudoephedrine  (Sudafed), saline nose spray

RUNNY NOSE: Actifed, diphenhydramine (Benadryl), loratidine (Claritin), Zyrtec 

SORE THROAT: Cepacol, Cepastat. Chloroseptic

GAS: Simethicone (Mylanta, Gas-X)

HEMORRHOIDS: Tucks medicated pads, Preparation H Cream, Ansul 

YEAST INFECTIONS: Gyne-Lotrimin

NOT SAFE MEDICINES

VITAMINS:  Vitamin A more than 5000 IU daily

PAIN     :Aspirin,     Ibuprofen(Motrin),     Naproxsyn(Aleve),     Metamizole(neo-melubrina, Dipyrone, Dipirona)

STOMACH UPSET:  Pepto:-Bismol, Alka Seltzer

DIARRHEA:  Pepto-Bismol, Imodium

COLDS: any combination product (like Nyquil, Thera-Flu)

CONSTIPATION: E Lax, casto oil

ALCOHOL\TOBACCO

**Sudafed is not safe in the first Trimester or if the mother has high blood pressure
